The Standard

Why a 4x4 is
non-negotiable.

Roads demand it

Skardu's high-altitude routes: Deosai at 4,114m, the Shigar Valley roads, the track into Khaplu: are not built for sedans or standard SUVs. A Land Cruiser Prado with an experienced driver is the minimum standard. We don't compromise on this.

Safety is non-negotiable

Mountain roads have narrow tracks, steep drops, and seasonal landslide debris. Our drivers know every road condition by season and can navigate safely in conditions that would stop most vehicles. Experience matters here more than anywhere.

Comfort for long drives

Skardu to Shigar is 30 minutes. Skardu to Deosai is 2 hours of rough road. Skardu to Khaplu is 3+ hours through stunning valleys. You'll spend a lot of time in the vehicle: it should be a Land Cruiser, not a town car.

Flexibility to explore

With a private 4x4 and driver, you stop when you want, stay longer where it matters, and skip what doesn't interest you. No shared minibus schedules. No waiting for other passengers. The vehicle is yours.

The Fleet

What we provide

The Vehicle

Our standard vehicle is the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado: the most capable, most comfortable, and most reliable 4x4 on Pakistani mountain roads. On longer trips or for larger groups, we use the Toyota Land Cruiser 200-series or equivalent.

The Driver

Every vehicle comes with a local expert driver who knows these roads personally. Not a GPS-following hire driver: someone who grew up in these valleys, knows which roads close in which month, and can navigate safely in conditions that change quickly.

How to Book

Vehicle rental is included as standard in all Raahi tour packages. If you just need a vehicle and driver for specific legs: airport transfers, day trips to Deosai, or a standalone excursion: we can arrange that independently.

Common Questions

Before you ask.

Do you need a 4x4 for Skardu?

Yes. Roads beyond Skardu city: Deosai Plains at 4,114m, Shigar Valley, Khaplu Valley. All are unpaved, narrow, and seasonal. A Land Cruiser Prado with four-wheel drive and high ground clearance is the minimum standard. For anything outside the city, 4WD is not optional.

Is a driver included?

Yes, always. Every vehicle comes with a local driver who was born and raised in Gilgit-Baltistan. They know every road, every seasonal condition, and every mountain pass without maps or GPS. Mountain driving in Baltistan requires this kind of knowledge. We do not offer self-drive.

Which airport should I fly into?

Skardu Airport (KDU) is the right choice. Gilgit Airport (GIL) exists but has very high cancellation rates year-round due to mountain weather. Even locals in the region prefer Skardu. We meet you at Skardu Airport on arrival and drop you back on your last day.

What is included in the daily rate?

The daily rate covers the vehicle and driver for the full day. Fuel is not included. Clients either pay for fuel directly, or we calculate and bill it separately based on the day's route and itinerary.

Is airport drop-off included?

Multi-day bookings include a free airport drop-off on your last day, provided we reach Skardu Airport before 9 AM. Drop-offs after 9 AM are charged as a full rental day. Our cars return to service at 9 AM, so a late drop-off holds the vehicle for the rest of the morning.

Where do you operate?

We operate throughout Gilgit-Baltistan: Skardu, Hunza, and all destinations in between, including cross-travel between the two. We cover Shigar Valley, Khaplu, Deosai Plains, Attabad Lake, and custom routes on request. We do not offer road transfers from Islamabad, Lahore, or other cities outside Gilgit-Baltistan.

What vehicles are available?

Our fleet is Toyota Land Cruisers only: the Prado TZ (standard), the Prado TZ-G, the Land Cruiser Cygnus (J100), and the V8 ZX. All seat up to 6 passengers plus driver and are fully capable on every route we cover. The upper vehicles are for comfort and a premium experience. Every vehicle in our fleet handles Baltistan's roads.
