June is one of Hunza Valley's most underrated months. The apricot blossom crowds of April have gone. Peak summer hasn't fully arrived. The weather is warm, all roads are open, and the valley is at full green before the July and August rush. For travellers with flexibility, June offers a strong combination of access, comfort, and relative quiet.
Weather in Hunza in June
Karimabad (2,440 metres) in June sees daytime temperatures of 20 to 28 degrees Celsius. Warm enough for light clothing during the day; a layer needed in the evenings. Higher elevations like Eagle's Nest (3,100 metres) are 5 to 8 degrees cooler, bring a mid-layer for the pre-dawn drive. Rain is possible but infrequent; June sits between the spring snowmelt and the monsoon fringe that occasionally affects late July and August.
Mountain visibility is generally excellent in June. Clear mornings are the norm. The Rakaposhi and Ultar Sar views from Karimabad are sharp in early June before any summer haze builds up.

What's open and accessible in June
Everything. All roads are open in June: the Karakoram Highway is clear, the track to Eagle's Nest at Duikar is accessible, and the road north to Passu and Gulmit is straightforward. Attabad Lake is fully accessible and the water temperature is warmer than in October. The Hussaini Bridge and the Passu Cones viewpoint are reachable without issue.
Khunjerab Pass is typically open from May 1, so the drive to the Pakistan-China border is an option in June for those who want the high-altitude experience.
The orchards in June
June is apricot season in Hunza, not blossom season. The trees that were covered in white flowers in April are now thick with green and early-ripening apricots. By mid-to-late June, the first apricots of the season are ripe on lower-elevation trees. Village lanes in Karimabad and Altit are shaded by the orchard canopy. Walnuts and mulberries are also in season. This is not the dramatic visual of April blossom but it is the working version of the same orchards: abundant, shaded, and genuinely worth walking through.
Crowds and hotels in June
June is before peak season. Pakistani domestic tourism peaks in July and August when schools are on holiday. In June, the hotels that are fully booked in August have availability. Shigar Fort Palace and other heritage properties are easier to book on shorter notice. Karimabad's cafes and bazaar are uncrowded. Eagle's Nest is quieter at sunrise than it will be in two months.
International visitors are present in June but in smaller numbers than July-August. For those who find crowds diminishing, June gives the same attractions at noticeably lower density.
June vs July/August: what changes
July and August bring warmer evenings, peak wildflowers on Deosai (if you are combining with Skardu), and the full summer tourism wave. June has slightly cooler evenings, slightly less crowded attractions, and the same full-access conditions. If your trip includes Deosai, note that the Deosai road typically opens mid-June, timing your Skardu visit for the last week of June gets you Deosai access.
If you are choosing between June and September-October, October wins on light quality and autumn colour. June wins on warmth and the green season orchard walks. For most travellers coming from abroad with fixed dates, June is a strong choice that is often overlooked in favour of peak summer.
Raahi runs Hunza tours throughout June. Our Do Wadiyan itinerary covers Skardu, Baltistan, and Hunza in 10 days and operates from June through October.
